It is that time of year again. The time to dress in layers, tie on our boots, and go out and have fun at the 2012 Preble District Klondike event. This year the event will be held on January 14 at Pleasant Vineyards just south of Camden. Below is the schedule for the day: 6:30 AM - Arrive at the cabin 6:45 AM - Leave for Pleasant Vineyards 7:30 AM - Registration 8:00 AM - Patrol Leader and Judges Meeting 8:45 AM - Opening Ceremony 9:00 AM - 11:30 AM - Morning Events 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM - Lunch (Walking Tacos for Troop 127) 12:30 PM - 4:00 PM - Afternoon Events 5:00 - Awards Ceremony 7:00 - Return to the cabin
The Klondike is a competition between patrols that tests the scouts in several scouting areas - typically things like fire building, knots and lashings, orienteering, and plant identification. Teamwork and scout spirit are also important parts of this competition. The cost for the event is $10 per scout. Each scout should dress for the weather since the entire event is held entirely outside. Also each scout should bring a mess kit for lunch, a water bottle, and a change of clothes (two extra pairs of socks minimum). I am looking forward to a fun event this Saturday. Let's do our best to bring home that first place trophy again this year. |
